FAQ

Here are some questions I get asked often.

If you still have questions or concerns, please feel free to use the form below to contact me.

What are your session prices?

All my session fees are listed on my website for your convenience. Here are the links for that information:

When are your next mini sessions?

Subscribe to my mailing list on my home page to be updated on new date drops for the season. Mini sessions are scheduled back to back with other clients on a date and location I select. They will be in Winston-Salem unless otherwise stated.

Long Mini sessions are best for:

  • Families with 4 or more kids

  • Any special needs

  • Especially shy kids

  • Toddler(s) + a baby or dogs

  • If you’re not sure, ask!

Should I do a short or long mini session?

I can’t make it to your available mini sessions, what can I do?

If the dates and locations I have open for mini sessions don’t work for you, you are welcome to grab a few friends and set up a private grouping mini session. Minimum of 3 families are required to schedule a private mini session grouping and you can select the date and time with me. Bonus, a referral discount will be added to your session for setting it up.

Can I bring my pet to my session?

Yes! I welcome all fur babies. I recommend bringing a friend or family member to hold the leash and care for your pet while we get a few photos without them. Please plan to bring treats and a toy to get their attention during the session as well.

Can extended family attend the session?

Mini sessions are for individual family units only and if you would like to grab an additional 15 minute slot, we will be able to accommodate additional people like grandparents. If it is another family unit, I recommend them grabbing a larger time slot back to back with yours.

Private sessions, YES! Of course, we have plenty of time to get all the different arrangements for up to 10 people. Please let me know if you have any specific requests regarding this. For groups larger than 10 people there are additional fees included as generally this requires additional editing time.

What should I bring to our session?

Bring a blanket or large scarf to get some sitting or snuggling pictures. I recommend a solid or non-busy print in neutral or light colors. We may use it, or may not depending on the location of the session but better to have it as an option. Otherwise, just bring yourselves, smiles and fun!

I have a toddler, what should I expect?

BEFORE: It is important that you arrive between 5-10 minutes prior to your scheduled start time so that they can adjust to the new space. If you are rushing, that can create an uneasiness for toddlers and they are more likely to not cooperate. Sessions will move quickly, so please ensure that kids are prepped and fed prior to shoot, something that wont stain tongues and faces ideally. Nothing will help a hungry/hangry toddler.

DURING: Please allow me to work with your toddler and make all the requests of them. I find that when mom, dad and myself(and maybe grandma and siblings) are all talking, they get overwhelmed and overstimulated. At that point, it’s hard to get back on track. So, during the session, don’t ask them to do anything. All I want you all to do is have fun, smile and just enjoy your session. I have tried and true methods to getting toddlers to cooperate and I will only ask them to smile and look when EVERYONE ELSE is ready!

AFTER: Have a celebration for after, something that you can do every time after photos. Even if the session didn’t go perfectly, still celebrate and make a big deal of it. Then talk to them about the camera, me and the session. Point out the fun parts, point out the not so fun parts that might have been hard. Them tell them how proud you are of them for doing the hard parts. Show them the pictures when you receive them and thank them for their smiles and doing a good job. Remind them of the session and just say, maybe next time we have a session we can celebrate after again? Would you like that?

Oh no, rain! What do we do?

Because weather is fickle and meteorologists are only able to predict weather with 50% accuracy, I wait until 1 hour before your shoot to make the call about weather based on what we actually see happening outside. You will receive a text or call to let you know your session needs to be cancelled. If it does, here are some options: Choose a different start time // I find most “rainy days” turn out to be some sun and some rain. We can just move you to a better hour. Shoot at home // We can get classic family portraits on the couch, near pretty window light, or cozied up on a bed. You can also plan some lifestyle activities, like reading stories, baking cookies, or giving the kids a bubble bath. Subject to travel time and distance to your home. Shoot at a coffee shop or covered location // I have a few go-to rainy day locations, but I’m open to other ideas too! Embrace the rain and have fun // You’re welcome to bring rain boots and umbrellas for puddle-jumping and rain fun. I find when clients choose this option, we often get lucky with the weather and shoot outside anyway! Reschedule // Please know this is subject to the availability sent via email.

I need to cancel or reschedule, what are your policies?

When you book your session, you reserve a block of time on my calendar that I plan to work. When you cancel, that time goes unpaid, leaves gaps in my day and keeps me from being able to serve other clients who would have wanted that time slot. So, please do your very best to keep your date as scheduled as my calendar is very full. During busy season(September-December), it is very difficult to reschedule appointments within a reasonable time, especially if you require weekend availability. If your date needs to be changed once you have booked your session, you have one reschedule allowed. You must contact me via email at least 3 days in advance to reschedule your session. If any cancellation occurs within in the 3 days before your session, you lose your retainer and need to start the rebooking process over.

I want to book my session, but I have no idea what to wear. Can you help me?

I give out my style guide to all my clients to help them select outfits that look great and make them feel great. Most of the time, that’s right from your closet! No need to go out and buy all new clothes.
